Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan, Louisiana Tech cornerback Tony Moss and Louisiana Tech punter Chris Keagle were named the Western Athletic Conference offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, today.
Brennan, a senior from Irvine, Calif., completed 34-of-40 passes for 416 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions in the first half of UH’s 63-6 win over Northern Colorado. It was his 15th career 400-yard passing game and third six-touchdown game.
Brennan who was the WAC’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2006, was WAC Player of the Week three times last year.
“It feels good to start the season with that kind of recognition,” Brennan said this morning. “We took care of business Saturday, but we can’t get caught up in that. We have to get ready for our first WAC game.”
He set three new school records with 416 yards in a half, 19 completions in a quarter and 34 completions in a half. His six touchdown passes tied a school record for a half and gave him 99 for his career, tied for the sixth most in NCAA history with USC’s Matt Leinart. Brennan also eclipsed the 10,000-yard passing mark and now has 10,266 in his career.
The other two players of the week come from UH’s next opponent. The Warriors play at LaTech on Saturday.
Moss, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., intercepted three passes and made two tackles in Louisiana Tech’s 28-7 win over Central Arkansas. Moss became the first Bulldog player since 1998 (Fred Lewis vs. Boise State) to intercept three passes in one game. All three came inside Tech territory with two of them inside the two-yard line. Moss entered the game with one career interception.
Keagle, a junior from Baton Rouge, La., punted six times for a 49.8-yard average in the game against Central Arkansas. He had three punts over 50 yards, including a 57 and 59-yarder while three of the six were downed inside the UCA 20-yard line.
